A radicalisation timeline

This article was written by April

In May 2020, I became abolitionist — almost as soon as I heard demands for abolishing police; I understood this was the leftist position. As I had always seen progressive value in that, I followed along.

I remember starting to read about Palestine, and calling myself antizionist.

I read the communist manifesto that summer, but struggled to understand it. I really only came to fully grasp it after the 3rd reading. I do not recall what reading I am on now, but I have read it at least a dozen times.

In 2021 I recalled buying a bulk of soviet and cpusa pamphlets on eBay. These pamphlets are all still with me since I have run away from home, happily. I read nearly all of them. I then encountered the book State and Revolution, whereat I became transfixed with how the Soviet Union worked and impressed by Lenin’s polemic. I had started to enter Leninism.

When the genocide of 2021 happened in Gaza, I was appalled. I also around that time bought and read the strategy for the liberation of Palestine book, written by the PFLP. This made me come to explicitly support the PFLP, and armed Palestinian resistance. I came to the fullest conclusion there was a need for the dissolution, destruction of the zionist entity, and a one-state solution of Palestine.

With Lenin, I re-engaged with Marx, and then also Stalin, Fanon, Ho Chi Minh, and Engels. I also was inspired by Cuba, and started to read about it. I remember the book “Voices from the Other Side” touched me profoundly, and led me toward Castro and Guevara. By 2022 I made the switch to Marxist Leninism.

Marxism-Leninism was the key tenet of my ideology at this point. However, I had always remained in the synthesis of abolitionism. But I had started to grow my interest in reading, which meant I was going to start changing a lot. Feminist ideology had qualitatively transformed from a liberal variety into a communist variant. I saw this as meaning the central and immediate purpose of feminism is abolishing capitalism in order to ensure the political rights of women. I had also resynthesised my environmentalist politic, and chose to explicitly embrace this term as well, environmentalist. Now similarly, the central cause of climate change is capitalism, and it is a question of socialism or extinction, not just barbarism, at this point.

I started to realise there was a major problem of chauvinism in marxist spaces especially in the west. This became clearer to me as I read more works. Feminism transformed into proletarian feminism, but this was not enough, nor was anti-capitalist environmentalism. I realized socialism itself had not been properly synthesised for decolonisation, and the problem of settler chauvinism. You cannot put a red flag on top of a settler project and call it socialist, you have to abolish the settler project for there to be socialism; you need land back in order to have socialism. This was by late 2023 to 2024. I decided to call myself decolonial at this point, or decolonialist. This was accelerated by the October 7th uprising, which reinforced my antizionism, making it so that now I am single issuing on Palestine. (

Voting for a genocidal candidate reflects the chauvinism of labour aristocracy. And the “communists” voting for genocidal candidates are hypocrites and renegades to communism.

Why am I single issuing on Palestine? Simply put it, it connects to every other political issue. You can’t have trans rights if you don’t put Palestine first, because trans people live in Gaza, and the zionists are killing Palestinian people in Gaza. You can’t have environmentalism either, because the zionist entity is stealing land, destroying land, and polluting with all its expansionism and militarism. You can’t have gay rights without Palestine first and foremost, because gay people are murdered by the zionist entity.

I left cpusa in indignation that they let Maki (Israeli communist party) condemn the Palestinian resistance (al-Qassam brigades) and the October 7th uprising, as well as their failure to support land back, Black power, theories by Harry Haywood, etc. I had a public meltdown over it. I hated that no one took it seriously. Someone called me, at this point, “more decolonialist than marxist-leninist,” as a kind of pejorative. In fact I do not dispute this at all. I am more decolonialist than marxist because communism cannot be actualised unless decolonisation comes first; marxism is Eurocentric until it is decolonised and until the world is decolonised, decarceralised, decarbonised, and depatriarchalised.

This was a qualitative leap. I was more decolonialist than marxist; my marxism was decolonial marxism. I supported Black power explicitly. I supported land back explicitly. I started to get closer to my own community after running away successfully. I realized the problem of transphobia in feminist theory.

Feminism came before marxist-leninism but then transformed into transfeminism as a specific and qualitatively higher stage of it. feminists should just resynthesise with the same ideology but to transfeminism. I am a feminist but iIqualitatively leap to transfeminism on the feminist basis. Transfeminism is the qualitative leap — it keeps the kernel of feminism and is feminist and disposes of the transmisogynist shell.  I demand every single trans right enshrined.

Therefore, I am still a feminist, but now am specifically transfeminist, which is its most progressive, most radical, and most materially accurate stage of feminism, with non-transfeminism being outmoded.

I had wanted to go to Maoism but held back. This is now late 2025 to 2026. Bad mental health spiraled me out of orgs like FRSO, as well as being stalked. This allowed me to explore. eminism came before marxist-leninism but then transformed into transfeminism as a specific and qualitatively higher stage of it, and then into Maoism. I went from Marxist-Leninist to Marxist-Leninist-Maoist, with an expressly decolonial bent. Therefore, I usually say I am decolonial maoist. I also qualitatively leaped on an environmentalist level. I have come to the position degrowth is another precondition needed for communism, that depatrichalisation is a precondition, and that the enemy structure is not simply patriarchy but is cisheteropatriarchy. In this sense, then, we need decisheteropatriarchalisation. So these are the steps: decolonisation, decarbonisation, degrowth, decarceralisation, de(cishetero)patriarchalisation — and thus communism.

I synthesised with ecofeminism but as a variant of transfeminism rather than independent due to its otherwise idealist and transmisogynist / transmisogynoirist framework. The central reason is that I see the domination of earth as connected with the domination of women and especially the domination of trans women by cis men oppressors. I think the same ideology that justifies pollution, destroying the earth, productivism, etc, is inherently connected to brutality and violence against women.

I synthesised with degrowth. There is a necessity to struggle against productivism. The amount the west is producing is utterly unsustainable and socially murderous. It is a question of degrowth or die. The west but substantially cut back and reverse this current productivism even if it means great inefficiencies.

I synthesised with ecosocialism. I think Marxism, despite the metabolic rift idea in Das Kapital (which I have read), is not properly ecological, and needs, like how Fanon stretched it to the colonial question, to be stretched to the ecological question. Besides, the ecological question is inherently about colonialism, and colonialism is inherently about ecocide. That is why we talk about environmental racism.

I have consistently been on the basis of abolitionism. I believe the police and prisons must be abolished. I believe this must be proactively done. I believe there cannot be a transitional phase in this cases and that their comparison to the state (i.e., “they wither away like the state withers away”) is hopelessly idealistic. They are the baton wielders who shoot and kill revolutionaries around the world. They are also an inherently racist institution. The anti-racist cause is one that actualises a decarceral and decolonial feminism. Prison is not feminist. Prison is genocide and torture. Police are the white oppressor dogs of capital.

I just have my ideological consistency. I go from police abolitionism to prison abolitionism to ecosocialism to degrowth-communism to ecofeminism to transfeminism to decolonialism. If demcent in the west mesns consolidating chauvinism, ableism, contributing to trans girl suicides, used to wedge out decolonialism, police/prison abolitionism, transfeminism from being firm programmic ideology and practical line, yes, I am opposed to it. Until the chauvinist problem is fixed, demcent in the west has been used instead as bureaucratic settler centralism. I do constant criticism because I demand principles and consistency; decolonialism, abolitionism, transfeminism, ecosocialism, eco-maoism, gay power, eco radicalism. I want transfeminism, non-binary liberation, gay power, Black power, land back, decriminalization of sex work, abolition of borders, decolonialism, police abolitionism politics, support for Kashmir, for Eelam, for the Rohingya, for Sudan, for Congo.

Communism is the opposite of conservatism. You cant have one and the other. you can only be one of these. Communism is about gay and trans liberation because ending the social relations to the capitalist-colonialist mode of production breaks the sexual division of labour that presupposes heterosexuality in a heteronormative nuclear family unit. It also abolishes the family.

I have become family abolitionist as a survivor of domestic abuse. I am not the radical who flares in rage at the demand, like Marx alludes to in his manifesto.

Communism is unity-struggle-unity. Communism is ruthless criticism of all that exists. Communism is soviet power, Black power plus the green electrification of the whole world without borders. Communism is the real movement against the social and political order of things including the structure of transmisogynoir and trans genocide.

Why did I go maoist by 2026? it is the third synthesis of marxism. leninism is marxism applied to imperialism and maoism is just a continuation of that to today, which is still imperialist.

Maoism focuses on necessity of armed and ideological struggle in a way people who only get half the way dont emphasise as much. I also think protracted people’s war is a model that can work where it is applicable.

Maoism emphasises rigorous self-criticism in ideology and intra-party struggle that allows for it to be dynamic  —whereas other organisations have not maintained this self-criticism practice, and has therefore led to chauvinist trends like organisations denying settler colonialism because they refuse to engage with decolonialism besides just a vague caricature of it.

I am very confident of the direction in which I am going. I say I have consistency and always say I have consistency. Wherever I go, it will continue to be toward the left. I am very unconcerned with accusations of “ultraleftist,” at this point.
